Sensex ends flat

MUMBAI: In choppy tradING on Tuesday, the Bombay Stock Exchange sensitive index, Sensex, ended with a moderate loss of 3.67 points as market participants indulged in booking profits. The Sensex, which gained nearly 731 points on Monday, moved between 12197.88 and 11985.88 before closing at 12131.08. The 50-share National Stock Exchange index, Nifty, moved between 3682.20 and 3618.75 before closing at 3661.90.

The market moved on a cautious note as investors took a pause after a rise of 1133 points in the last two trading sessions.

Major market players also looked to capitalise on recent gains and lock in profits before the general election results are announced. Market sentiment turned bearish as shares in the FMCG, IT, and refinery sectors recorded heavy losses. Selling pressure was at the counters of Reliance Industries, Infosys, TCS, State Bank of India and HDFC. The four together carry nearly 37 per cent weight in the Sensex.
