Hon. Abimbola Oladimeji Owonifaari has identified good welfare for residents and a sound economic drive as his core priorities for Ibadan South East Local Government.
Speaking with press men in Ibadan amid ongoing consensus activities ahead of the general election, Owonifaari said local government administration must focus on policies that directly improve lives and stimulate economic activity at the grassroots.
He described good welfare as functional primary healthcare, improved sanitation, support for vulnerable households, and responsive social services across all wards in Ibadan South East. On the economy, he stressed the need to empower traders, artisans, market women, and youth through skill acquisition, access to micro-support, and better infrastructure around commercial hubs.
Owonifaari, a political stakeholder and community mobilizer with strong ties to wards in the council, said Ibadan South East has the population and commercial history to lead, but requires deliberate governance to unlock its potential. He noted that the ongoing consensus process offers political actors a chance to align on competence and service delivery.
“The people want to feel government in their daily lives and in their pockets. That is what good welfare and a sound economic drive will do for Ibadan South East,” he told journalists.
He added that regular engagement with traditional rulers, community development associations, and market leaders would guide council decisions and ensure projects reflect local needs.
With IBSELG 2026 in view, Owonifaari is framing his chairmanship bid around service delivery and local economic growth, positioning both as the foundation for inclusive development in Ibadan South East Local Government.
