Dr. Adeniran currently serves as Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, where he has anchored his public service on basic education delivery. Under his leadership, Oyo SUBEB rolled out initiatives targeted at raising teaching quality and learning outcomes across the state’s public primary schools. These included the introduction of new teaching methods, structured support for teachers, and interventions for pupils aimed at improving classroom performance.
Before SUBEB, Dr. Adeniran’s political career took him through local government administration and state-level politics. He served as Executive Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government, where he was credited with grassroots project delivery and community engagement. He has also been a long-standing PDP chieftain in Oyo State, playing roles in party mobilisation, campaign strategy, and reconciliation efforts across Ibadan and beyond. Associates point to his tenure in council as evidence of executive experience at the grassroots, handling budgets, infrastructure, and direct service delivery to wards and communities.
Beyond policy and administration, associates describe his strength as coalition-building. At SUBEB, he worked closely with teachers, parents, and community leaders to push broader access to quality basic education. At the council, he was known for open-door consultations with traditional rulers, market leaders, and youth groups. His camp argues that this blend of grassroots governance and sectoral reform is what Oyo State needs at the executive level.
The SUBEB years produced measurable claims his supporters now cite on the campaign trail. Enrollment rates increased, learning outcomes improved, and teacher capacity-building programmes were expanded under his watch. He supervised the training and retooling of teachers and oversaw the construction and renovation of classrooms and other school infrastructure to provide a more conducive learning environment. All of this happened under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, widely rated as one of the country’s top-performing governors.
Dr. Adeniran has proven executive competence at the local government level and sectoral transformation at SUBEB, his role as two time commissioner and legal experience will as fulcrum for sound administration in Oyo State. He points to strategic planning and implementation across both roles as evidence he can allocate resources, set priorities, and deliver results that touch ordinary citizens. For a state that lists education, youth development, human capital, and grassroots development as pillars of growth, his backers believe his combined record gives him a unique opening in the governorship race.
With consultations ongoing ahead of the PDP Consensus , Dr. Nureni Adeniran is positioning himself as a candidate whose experience from the council chamber to the education board can be scaled to run the whole of Oyo State.
