Oyo 2027: Olopoeyan Backs Makinde, Rejects APC, Blasts Gbolarumi

A former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Bisi Olopoeyan, has made it clear that his political future is tied to Governor Seyi Makinde as the 2027 elections approach.

Speaking during an interview on a radio programme in Ibadan, Olopoeyan said he and his supporters are ready to follow Makinde wherever he goes politically even if that means leaving the PDP for another party.

According to him, consultations are already ongoing, and their loyalty is firmly with the governor. He stressed that joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) is completely off the table, both for him and his political base across all 33 local government areas of the state.

Olopoeyan expressed strong confidence in Makinde’s political strength, saying the governor has built a solid grassroots structure that could influence the outcome of the 2027 governorship election. In his view, Makinde has the capacity not only to deliver victory for his preferred candidates but also to determine his own successor, regardless of the party platform.

He also took a swipe at the APC, suggesting that internal issues within the party could weaken its chances especially if it fields a less competitive candidate.

On the crisis within the PDP in Oyo State, Olopoeyan didn’t hold back. He criticised the faction led by Alhaji Azeem Gbolarunmi, describing the situation as unfortunate and accusing Gbolarunmi of pursuing personal ambitions while claiming control of the party structure.

He further alleged that outside influences, including figures linked to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, have contributed to the party’s internal divisions.
