Joy as Olatunji Picks APM Reps Ticket, ‘Ilumoka’ Emerges Assembly Candidate

There was excitement and celebration on Thursday at Methodist High School, Toll Gate, Ibadan, as the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, officially emerged as the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.


Hon. Waheed Akintayo, popularly known as “Ilumoka,” also emerged unopposed as the party’s candidate for the Oyo State House of Assembly, securing the ticket to seek a second term in office.


Party members, supporters, youth groups, and community leaders gathered in large numbers for the congress, which was marked by cheers, applause, and celebrations after the announcement of the results.


The exercise was supervised by the party’s Returning Officer, Dr. Olawale Aremu, who described the process as peaceful, transparent, and successful.


Speaking after the announcement, Engr. Olatunji thanked party leaders, delegates, and supporters for believing in him and giving him the opportunity to represent the party.


He also appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde, describing him as his political mentor and leader, while promising to continue working hard for the growth and development of the constituency.


According to him, the ticket is a collective responsibility and a call to do more for the people at the grassroots.


“This victory belongs to everyone. I appreciate the trust and support from party members, and I promise to continue working for the progress of our constituency,” he said.

Supporters at the venue described Olatunji’s emergence as a reward for his performance and leadership style as chairman of Oluyole Local Government.


The congress was attended by several party stakeholders and leaders, including Hon. Mogbonjubola Abdul Mojeed, Commissioner for Works; Hon. Popoola Olaide, former council chairman; Hon. Olumide Akinlade, Special Assistant to the Governor on Oluyole Federal Constituency; Hon. Babalola Afobaje, RUWASA Chairman; Hon. Kehinde Abore, former council chairman, alongside party executives across the ten wards.
