Kenny Gooner Appeals for Unity Among Arsenal Fans in Nigeria

Ismaila Kehinde, popularly known as Kenny Gooner, tells CityFocus News that cooperation and unity are key to building a stronger Arsenal supporters’ community in Nigeria.

Arsenal supporters in Nigeria have been urged to put unity first and work together for the growth of their community, following discussions surrounding the proposed launch of Arsenal Fans Club Nigeria, coordinated by Charles Ojugbana.

Ismaila Kehinde, popularly known as Kenny Gooner, made the appeal while speaking to CityFocus News, stressing that the love for Arsenal Football Club should be a reason for supporters to come together rather than allow differences to create division.

He explained that Arsenal Supporters Club Nigeria respects the right of fans to organise themselves, hold events and celebrate the club they love. However, he clarified that Arsenal Fans Club Nigeria is not currently affiliated with Arsenal Supporters Club Nigeria.

A History of Commitment to Arsenal

According to Kenny Gooner, Arsenal Supporters Club Nigeria has been part of the Nigerian Gooner community for many years. He stated that the organisation was established in 2004, officially approved by Arsenal Football Club in 2005, and registered with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2007.

He said the organisation’s history reflects years of commitment to bringing supporters together and creating a platform where their passion for Arsenal can translate into friendship, fellowship and community development.

On the question of affiliation, he explained that Charles Ojugbana had contacted the organisation’s National Head, Emeka Onyenuforo, to discuss the possibility of affiliation.

He added that, according to the organisation’s account, Ojugbana subsequently contacted Arsenal FC in London to seek recognition. The club’s Supporter Liaison Officer, Mark Brindle, reportedly acknowledged the longstanding supporters’ club in Nigeria and referred him to Emeka Onyenuforo for further engagement.

Kenny Gooner believes that continued communication and mutual understanding would help prevent unnecessary misunderstandings and allow supporters to focus on their common interest.

More Than Just Supporting a Football Club

For Kenny Gooner, being an Arsenal supporter is about more than football results, match-day excitement or celebrating victories. It is also about friendship, belonging and building meaningful relationships with people who share the same passion.

He explained that Arsenal Supporters Club Nigeria operates as a non-profit supporters’ organisation, with its focus on promoting Arsenal, supporting members and strengthening the wider community.

He urged supporters to look beyond personal differences and recognise the value of working together for the benefit of the Arsenal family in Nigeria.

Nigeria's Opportunity to Shine in Nairobi

Looking ahead, Kenny Gooner highlighted an invitation reportedly received by Arsenal Supporters Club Nigeria from Arsenal Kenya to attend the Arsenal African Fans Festival in Nairobi in March 2027, during the Easter period.

He described the proposed gathering as an opportunity for Nigerian Gooners to connect with fellow supporters from across Africa and showcase the enthusiasm and commitment of Arsenal fans in Nigeria.

He stressed that adequate preparation, cooperation and organisational unity would be important in making Nigeria's participation a success.

A Message of Unity to Nigerian Gooners

Kenny Gooner appealed to Arsenal supporters across the country to embrace dialogue, respect one another and work towards a common goal.

He noted that differences of opinion are normal in any organisation, but they should not overshadow the shared passion that brings supporters together.

His message is simple: rather than allow disagreements to divide the Arsenal community, supporters should focus on building stronger relationships and creating a better future for Nigerian Gooners.

As the organisation looks ahead to its next chapter and the proposed Nairobi festival, the call remains for cooperation, mutual respect and a united front.

ONE CLUB. ONE FAMILY. ONE ARSENAL NIGERIA.
