Olatunji Faults Sadipe Over Ayegun–Olomi Road, Begins Pothole-Filling Exercise

The poor condition of the Ayegun–Olomi Road has once again drawn attention, following the commencement of a pothole-filling exercise by Engr. Akeem Olatunji, popularly known as Sarsino, who has criticised the representation of Hon. Tolu Sadipe, the lawmaker representing Oluyole Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

As an eyewitness to the development, CityFocus Update observed the intervention as Olatunji mobilised trucks of rubble and other road repair materials to some damaged sections of the road to provide temporary relief for motorists and other road users.

The exercise commenced on Monday, October 26, amid concerns about the condition of the road and the need for lasting rehabilitation.

Olatunji, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as the prolonged delay in the rehabilitation project. He questioned the level of attention given to the road by the federal lawmaker, stressing that residents deserved visible and sustained efforts to address the challenges affecting their daily lives.

He also alleged that contractors had only recently returned to the project site following a directive from Sadipe, suggesting that the renewed activity could be connected to the approaching election season. However, the allegation remains Olatunji's position.

Explaining the reason for his intervention, Olatunji said his immediate concern was to ease the difficulties faced by people who use the road regularly, rather than engage in political arguments.

“We have now taken a bold step by filling up those potholes,” he said.

He added that several trucks of rubble and other rehabilitation materials had been moved to the affected areas to support the exercise.

Olatunji further urged Sadipe to use the remaining period of her tenure in the 10th National Assembly to attract meaningful federal government projects to Oluyole Federal Constituency. He maintained that the people should be able to assess their representatives through tangible improvements in their communities.

He also criticised what he described as attempts to use media appearances and political activities to present the road project as evidence of effective representation, arguing that residents were familiar with the actual condition of the road.

According to him, the people of Oluyole deserve practical solutions to their infrastructure challenges rather than political exchanges.

A Temporary Intervention, Not a Permanent Solution

While the pothole-filling exercise may offer some immediate relief to motorists navigating the damaged sections, it does not remove the need for comprehensive rehabilitation of the Ayegun–Olomi Road.

The full scope of the intervention, including the number of road sections covered, was not immediately established. The durability of the repairs will also depend on the materials used, drainage conditions and the level of subsequent maintenance.

For residents and commuters who rely on the route daily, the central concern remains the delivery of a lasting solution that will make the road safer and easier to navigate.

As the debate over political representation continues, the condition of the Ayegun–Olomi Road presents a clear reminder that residents need sustained infrastructure improvements and verifiable results.
