Power Outage Hits Parts of Lagos After Transmission Station Shutdown

Many residents and business owners in Lagos are currently dealing with a sudden power outage following the shutdown of a key transmission station.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) explained that the blackout was caused by a technical fault at the Ijora Transmission Station. According to the company, a problem involving a damaged jumper at the 132kV section of the station forced an emergency shutdown, cutting off power supply to several areas.

As a result, communities such as  Ajele, Isale Eko, Idumagbo, Ijora, Otto, Apapa Road, Ebute, Badia, and nearby locations have been left without electricity.

The outage has also affected major banks and businesses in the area, including branches of UBA, Wema Bank, Union Bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and First Bank in Marina.

In addition, feeders connected to Badia, Ijora Causeway, New Customs, and Ajele injection substations are impacted, worsening the situation for residents and commercial activities.

EKEDC has apologized for the inconvenience and assured customers that its technical team is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. However, no exact time has been given for when power will be fully restored.

For now, affected residents are advised to remain patient while efforts are ongoing to fix the fault and bring electricity back.
