There was chaos in Igbeti and Kishi towns on Thursday as residents trooped out to protest the visit of All Progressives Congress, APC, 2027 gubernatorial hopeful, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun ALLI , and his running mate, Hon Adedeji Adesoji .
What was billed as a consultative tour turned violent within minutes. Eyewitnesses say angry youths and residents gathered along major streets chanting "thief, thief" and demanding accountability from the senator who currently represents Oyo South in the National Assembly.
The crowd accused Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli of failing to give account of constituency allowances he has received since 2023.
"Where is the money you have collected since you became senator? What have you done with it in Oyo South?" one protester shouted, as others threw stones and water sachets at the convoy.
In the ensuing confusion, both Senator Alli and Hon. Adesoji Adedeji were seen hurrying into their vehicles and leaving the area to avoid being hit.
The protest was not just about stones. It was about frustration. Community leaders and residents who spoke said they heard from the residents of Oyo South Senatorial District that they feel abandoned despite years of promises.
"People of Oyo South are hungry. Youth have no job, no empowerment for traders ,farmers ,artisans and others, and yet he come here to ask for votes,"Chief Jimoh Odetunde a resident in Kishi said. "Someone like him is dangerous to rule Oyo State if he cannot account for what he has collected so far."
Another woman in Igbeti added, " His people are tired of him. They want leaders who will stay with them, not only during campaigns."
The incident has already set tongues wagging across Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Political observers say the reception in Oke-Ogun may signal a growing demand for transparency and performance from public office holders.
As at the time of filing this report, the APC campaign team had not issued an official statement on the incident.
But for the people of Igbeti and Kishi, Thursday was a message: 2027 will not be business as usual. The people want answers, and they want them now.
