Crysis on Consoles "Looks Great"

In a recent interview with IGN, developer Crytek discussed the porting of CryENGINE 2, the engine that powers Crysis and quite a few upcoming MMOs, to the Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as licensing to other studios for said platforms.

Apparently, the company was highly surprised by the performance they got from the consoles. Harald Seeley, Crytek’s engine business manager, notes that the engine was tailored for each platform and its limitations compared to the PC. He states that once the tweaking for the respective versions of the engine is complete, it will have the same visual quality of the high settings found on PC. Seeley also states that the company found the conversion of the AI system more challenging that the physics or rendering systems, quite unexpectedly.

The Crytek engine is being used by the developer for two unannounced titles. The studio has released two games so far – Far Cry and Crysis.
