2027 in View: How Adeniran’s Record is Shaping Leadership Conversations in Oyo

Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran’s journey in public service reflects a blend of grassroots political experience and high-level administrative responsibility, an intersection that is steadily drawing attention as conversations around Oyo State’s 2027 leadership begin to take shape.

His political foundation was laid at the local government level, where he served as Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government one of the most politically strategic councils in the state. In that role, he handled the realities of governance at close range: managing tight budgets, executing community-based projects, and engaging directly with residents, traditional institutions, and political stakeholders. It was an experience that demanded both pragmatism and diplomacy, shaping his understanding of how policy decisions affect everyday lives.

Beyond administration, Adeniran remained deeply involved in party politics. Within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he built a reputation as a steady hand—someone familiar with ward-level dynamics and capable of navigating internal structures without unnecessary friction. His network spans across political blocs, grassroots mobilisers, artisans, and youth groups, reinforcing his relevance in the state’s political ecosystem.

At the state level, his leadership as Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) has been central to his administrative profile. Overseeing basic education across all 33 local government areas, Adeniran has managed large-scale responsibilities—from teacher recruitment and deployment to the execution of infrastructure projects funded through UBEC matching grants. Under his watch, efforts have been made to address staffing shortages, improve learning environments, and expand access to education.

He has also played a key role in implementing the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme, aimed at reducing the number of out-of-school children. Through community engagement and targeted interventions, the initiative recorded notable increases in school enrolment across the state.

One of the defining features of his tenure has been a push toward accountability and system reform. By introducing digital monitoring tools for school inspections, attendance tracking, and project supervision, OYOSUBEB has gradually shifted from manual processes to more transparent, data-driven operations. This aligns with broader expectations of efficiency and oversight in public institutions.

Colleagues often describe Adeniran’s approach as methodical and process-oriented, with a strong emphasis on compliance, documentation, and measurable outcomes. His earlier exposure to contract management and intergovernmental coordination at the local level now complements his role in managing a statewide agency with federal linkages and significant financial commitments.

Adeniran has consistently aligned himself with the vision of Engr Seyi Makinde (H.E), expressing confidence in the administration’s Roadmap for Accelerated Development and Sustainable Development. He believes the achievements recorded in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security form a solid foundation that should be sustained and expanded.

Looking ahead, he frames his outlook within the concept of “Omituntun 3.0”a continuation of the current development trajectory with room for refinement and improvement. In his view, the next phase of governance in Oyo State should not only preserve existing gains but also deepen them through strategic policy execution.

As Governor Makinde approaches the end of his tenure, attention is gradually shifting toward questions of capacity, continuity, and structure. In that unfolding conversation, Adeniran’s mix of grassroots insight and administrative experience is positioning him as one of the figures to watch.
