Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, have strongly dismissed claims of a plan to remove the monarch, describing the allegation as nothing more than a baseless rumour.oo
The reaction follows a statement by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who alleged that the Oyo State government was plotting to depose Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan.
But both the governor and the monarch, through their aides, made it clear that there is no truth to the claim and no tension between them.
Speaking on behalf of the state government, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the allegation was not only false but also lacked any logical basis. He stressed that the government has never discussed or considered such a move, urging the public to disregard what he described as politically motivated propaganda.
“There has to be a reason for any serious government action, and this clearly does not meet that standard,” he said, adding that Nigerians can already judge the credibility of such claims based on their source.
On his part, Ladoja’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, also dismissed the report, insisting that there is no rift between the governor and the Olubadan that could justify such speculation.
“It would be unfortunate if anyone takes this seriously,” he said. “There is simply no cause for friction between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan.”
The responses from both camps suggest a united front, with officials describing the allegation as unfounded and urging the public to ignore it.
