Padmavathi Ammavari Kartheeka Brahmotsavam Concludes with Panchami Theertham
The nine-day Brahmotsavam of goddess Padmavathi came to a grand close with `Chakra Snanam' performed at the Tiruchanur temple tank here on Tuesday.
The deity of Padmavathi was given a celestial bath on the banks of the tank `Padma Sarovaram', with water mixed with turmeric, sandal and other aromatic products. According to mythology, the goddess was born in a lotus flower in this very tank on `Kartheeka Panchami' day as per the almanac and hence the festival is called locally `Panchami Theertham'.
Earlier, priests carried `Saarey' (a collection of a silk saree, turmeric, kumkum, bangles etc.) on elephant-back all the way from Tirumala temple to Tiruchanur. It is considered a birthday gift from Lord Venkateswara to His consort.
Later, the deity of `Sudarsana Chakra' (sacred discus) was taken in a procession and given a holy dip in the Pushkarini amid chanting of hymns and to the beat of traditional percussion instruments.
