Dhanurmasam Begins

As per the TTD Panchangam, Dhanurmasam begins by 3.24 AM on December 16th and ends on January 14th , 2008.

In view of Dhanurmasam, In place of Suprabhatham, Thiruppavai will be recited in the temple of Lord Sri Venkateswara, Tirumala. The Veda Parayanadars will recite Vishnu Shahasranamam in the early mornings around four mada streets during these days.

Special programmes such as cultural programmes, religious discourses will be arranged at Asthanamandapam, Tirumala during Dhanurmasam by Dharma Prachara Parishad, TTDs.

Padmavathi Ammavari Kartheeka Brahmotsavam Concludes with Panchami Theertham






The nine-day Brahmotsavam of goddess Padmavathi came to a grand close with `Chakra Snanam' performed at the Tiruchanur temple tank here on Tuesday.

The deity of Padmavathi was given a celestial bath on the banks of the tank `Padma Sarovaram', with water mixed with turmeric, sandal and other aromatic products. According to mythology, the goddess was born in a lotus flower in this very tank on `Kartheeka Panchami' day as per the almanac and hence the festival is called locally `Panchami Theertham'.

Earlier, priests carried `Saarey' (a collection of a silk saree, turmeric, kumkum, bangles etc.) on elephant-back all the way from Tirumala temple to Tiruchanur. It is considered a birthday gift from Lord Venkateswara to His consort.

Later, the deity of `Sudarsana Chakra' (sacred discus) was taken in a procession and given a holy dip in the Pushkarini amid chanting of hymns and to the beat of traditional percussion instruments.

Padmavathi Ammavari Kartheeka Brahmotsavam- Rathotsavam




Thousands of devotees participated in the `Rathothsavam' as part of the annual Kartheeka Brahmotsavams at the Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple in Tiruchanur on Monday.

They enthusiastically dragged the flower-decked wooden chariot, with the presiding deity, Goddess Padmavathi, seated in it, through the four Mada streets around the Pushkarini (temple tank). Earlier, at 5.30 a.m. the priests performed the sacrificial rituals to the chariot and brought out the deity in a procession to the `Ratha Mandapam,' the starting point of the chariot-ride.

`Ratharohanam,' the process of seating the deity on the chariot was performed in the auspicious hours of `Tula Lagnam.' At 7.15 a.m., the officials signalled to the devotees to start pulling the huge rope connected to the chariot, and the gigantic vehicle slowly started rolling down the streets.

`Dwajarohanam' was performed on Monday Nov 24,2008 in the famous temple of Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple, signalling the commencement of the nine-day annual `Brahmotsavam' of Goddess Padmavathi.

The sacred yellow cloth flag with the imprint of Gaja , the celestial carrier of Goddess Padmavathi, was hoisted atop the golden flag post, `Dwajasthambham,' situated inside the temple complex at the auspicious `Vrushika lagnam' between 9.05am to 9.20 am. amidst the traditional recitation of Vedic hymns by temple priests.

Sri D.K.Audikesavulu, Chairman TTDs on Tuesday evening has released the Wall posters, Programme book lets of Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Kartheeka Brahmotsavams at the temple in Tiruchanur.

Speaking with media the chairman said that the TTD has made a golden chariot for Goddess Padmavathi will be taken out in procession around four mada streets. The cost of the Chariot is 3 crores, 23 kgs gold and 1050 copper is used for this chariot. For the first time this golden chariot is going to use in the Brahmotsavams.

The Chairman offered pujas to the Aswa Vahanam of Goddess Padmavathi Ammavaru in the temple donated by Sri M.Venkataramana, MLA. The cost of the Vahanam is Rs. 20.5 lakhs. 2kgs of Gold is used for the Vahanam. Later the Chairman explained the media about the facilities to be provided to the pilgrims during Brahmotsavams.

E.O inspections in Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple




The Ongoing works for Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Brahmotsavams at Tiruchanoor have to be completed within a couple of days told Sri K.V.Ramanachary, Executive Officer, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams on Saturday. He inspected the works at Tiruchanoor along with the Officials.

He asked the Chief Engineer to arrange parking places at the entrance of Tiruchanoor and at Pudi Road for the convenience of devotees. He asked the Deputy Suptd Police to pay special attention for security arrangements. Engineering works such as laying of roads, drains, repair works to the Vahana mandapam, formation of ‘Q’ lines in necessary areas should be finished with in short time he ordered the S.E. As the number of pilgrims visit the temple during Brahmotsavams, the Health Department of TTD as well as Grama panchayath has to take necessary steps to keep the environs clean and hygienic he added.

He further informed the DPP Officials that Cultural activities should be qualitative in Asthanamandapam. Nearly 50,000 pilgrims would be provided Anna prasadam at Thollappa Gardens on panchami theertham. He asked the Annadanam Department to make the arrangements accordingly.

While speaking with media, he informed that in view of Kartheeka Brahmotsavams Dwajarohanam will be on November-24, Simhavahanam on Novmber-26, Gajavahanam on November-28, Garuda Vahanam on November-29, Rathothsavam on December-1 and Pachami Theertham on December-2. He further informed that all the arrangements for the ensuing Kartheeka Brahmotsavams will be completed with in couple days he added.

Padya Dhara competions held at Mahathi



By recitation of poems one can get individuality, power of recollection told Sri K.V.Ramanachary, Executive Officer, TTDs.

The Education wing of TTD has organized padyadhara Competitions (Recitation of Poems) to the students of 1st to 7 th class studying in various schools in Tirupati. The prize distribution programme is arranged in mahathi on November 14. While addressing huge gathering of students, Sri Ramanachary said that the parents have to encourage the children to pay more attention on the mother tongue and its importance. He also announced that next year this competition will be conducted in state level.

Sri Chavireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Member of TTD Trust Board has requested the parents as well as the teachers to teach the children values in the society there by they can learn to live and face any problem in the society.

Later Sri Ramanachary, Sri Chavireddy Bhaskar Reddy have presented Gold, Silver Dollars to the winners of Padyadhara competitions.

Donation of Golden Kati and Vaikuntam Hastam to the Lord of Seven Hills




Sri Pratap.C. Reddy of Apollo Hospital, Chennai has donated Rs. 80 lakhs worth Golden KATI, VAIKUNTA HASTHAMS weighing approx 5.6kgs to the Lord of Seven Hills. He has handed the gift to the TTD Spl Officer Sri A.V.Dharma Reddy inside Sri Vari Temple, Tirumala on Thursday night.

Sri Vari Annual Pushpa Yagam








The annual Pushpa Yaga Mahotsavam performed in the temple of Lord Sri Venkateswara on Nov 6. Snapana Tirumanjanam by 9am to 11am, Pushpa Yagam by 1pm to 5pm conducted in the Sampangi Prakaram. In the evening by 6.30pm after the completion of Sahasra Deepalankara Seva, the lord Malayappa Swamy along with His consorts taken out in to procession around four mada streets.

In view of this Pushpa Yaga Mahotsavam on Nov 6, arjitha sevas such as Thomala, Archana, Kalyanotsavam, Unjal Seva, Brahmotsavam, and Vasanthotsavam besides Nijapada Sevas are cancelled.

Earlier, by 12 noon on the same day a procession was arranged by the Garden department with many kinds of flowers such as Thulasi, Maruvam, Dhavaram, Bilwam, Kadiri Pachki, Chamanthi, Sampenga, Rose, Lilly, Ganneru, Molla etc. The total flowers used in the utsavam are nearly 6 tonnes. Later the E.O TTDs has felicitated Sri Srinivas, Garden Supdt in Sri Vari Temple.

According to the Agama Sastras as well as Sri Venkatachala Mahatyam, people, Kings were used to conduct Pushpa Yaga Mahotsavam to the Lord, to save from Earthquake, cyclone, dangerous diseases etc. problems. Sri Thallapala Annamaiah also sang on Sri Vari Pushpa Yagam in 15 century. By unknown reasons, the performance of this utsavam was stopped in the temple years back. This utsavam was again started in the temple on Nov 14 1980. Since then it has been continuously conducted to the lord with religious ferver amidst Vedic hymns in the temple.

Kalyanamasthu held with Pomp and Gaiety

After conducting 'Kalyanamastu', the mass marriage programme across the State thrice successfully, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management conducted the fourth phase of mass marriages programme across Andhra Pradesh on the auspicious sumurtham between 10.55 hours and 11.10 hours in the Dhanur Langnam today.

The programme performed at 294 constituencies at various TTD kalayanamandapams and prominent Hindu temples in a traditional manner by the priests simultaneously and scores of grooms tied the yellow scared thread around the neck of their respective brides when Mangalya dharna was performed in the auspicious hours of Dhanur Langnam across the state.

The Kalyanamasthu programme is a historic event in the country told Sri N.D.Tiwari, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. He has attended the 4 th phase of Kalyanamasthu programme at Lalitha Kala Thoranam in Hyderabad on November 2. Speaking on this occasion he said that marriage is a very solemn event, particular this mass marriage he added. He blessed all the 120 couples.

Sri Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has blessed the couples. He said that’ I pray Lord Venkateswara Swamy to bless the couples with such, santhi and samruddi.

The yellow thread, `mettelu' and `kankanaalu' were kept at the feet of the deity of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala and Goddess Padmavathi at Tiruchanur temple before being dispatched to the venues across the state for the mega event. Sri vari dharshanam will be provided on free through cellar ticket to the newly couples along with their both parents.

Sri Vari Annual Brahmotsavam Begins






As caparisoned temple elephants saluted and thousands of devotees sat outside the temple watching the event occurring inside on plasma televisions. The Srivari Brahmotsavam-2008 began at the sumuhurtam of Meena lagnam with the ‘dwajarohanam’ after 6.45 in the evening.

The Tirumala township dazzled with the illuminations of Lord Venkateswara , his consorts and other Hindu deities as thousands waited with bated breath for the commence of the annual event. Earlier in the evening the Malayalappa swamy was taken in a procession preceded by the Brahma ratham and other commanders of the army of Lord Vishnu -Viswaksena, Anagada and Hanumantha by the temple palanquin carriers.

The chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy landed in the evening to participate in the Brahmotsavam. He walked the distance of over 150 meters from Anjaneyaswamy temple up to the temple carrying the official offerings of silk by government of AP to the deity on the occasion of the Brahmotsavam.

For the last two years the Chief Minister has been making the officials offering on the inaugural day of the Brahmotsavam instead of the fifth day in view of the huge crowds arriving at Tirumala on that day -the day of auspicious Garudotsavam.

The chief minister also inaugurated the Kaustubham guest house built within 12 months at a cost of Rs.15 crore consisting of 220 rooms. Later the he also laid foundation for the Rs.340 crore SV Drinking Water Scheme and the Ananda Nilayam Ananta Swarnamayam Pathakam estimated to cost Rs.100 crore in the first phase .

The chief Minister will stay put in Tirumala for the night and will leave for Hyderabad next morning.

The first of the Brahmotsavam vahanas " Pedda Shesha Vahanam " procession was a feast for all devout pilgrims who thronged the vast grounds around the tirumala temple all along the sacred four mada streets.

The entire area , as huge as a foot ball ground with the temple in the midst has been cordoned off with steel barricades and fully illuminated and wired up with audio system and plasma TV’s for the benefit of the devotees .

The shrill slogan of " Govinda, Govinda " ranted the air as the Pedda Shesha Vahanam came out of temple and went around for over two hours in the mada streets enthralling the thousands of pilgrims waiting since evening for them.

"People will wait for the holy darshan of the deity on the Lord Venkateswara till mid night” says Sri. Ramana Dikshtitulu, the chief priest of the TTD.

On the third day of the Srivari Brahmotsavam , Lord Venkateswara will give darshan outside his temple to lakhs devotees who come from all over the world on his vehicle of Simha ( Lion ) .

The incarnation of Lord Vishnu as the Mrugendrudu (most ferocious and strong among the animals) is an indication of Lord Venkateswara as a powerful entity born to punish the erring anti social elements on the universe for protection of the righteous, poor and the weaker sections in the society .

Being a Simha , is the fourth avatar of Lord Vishnu in his incarnation as 'Narasimha' whom the puranas and legends speak in volumes of his drive against 'Dushta' ( wrong doers) and protection of the weak, poor and the god fearing persons.

In the Yoga shastra – a Lion was seen as an embodiment of power and speed . The valor of Lord Venkateswara who had made such an animal as his vehicle is thus displayed in abundance. The statues of Lions in the Ananda Nilayam in the Srivari temple complex displayed the affection of Lord Venkateswara for Lions.

The idols of Narasimha in Yoga mudra in the temple and also the idol of Lakshmi Narasimha on the way to Tirumala exhibit the significance of Lion ( Simha) in the celestial entourage of Lord Venkateswara.

Lord Venkateswara appears before his devotees on the third day of the Srivari Brahmotsavam on a vehicle decorated with prices less and resplendent white pearls which denoted peace and patience .

Legend says that pearls , a produce of sea, is formed when the dew and rain drops into pearl chip in the ocean . Even Sri Krishna wore pearl nose rings and necklaces and Lord Venkateswara hailed as “ Alankara priyudu”

During the Srivari Brahmotsavam Lord Venkateswara sat proudly along with his consorts sat in a vahanam decked up milk white pearls in the shape of a pandal.

The 26 th chapter of Padmapuranam refers to an umbrella made of pearls giving shade to Lord Vishnu and several contemporary poets of the bygone days had described the hood of Adisesha giving cool shade of Pearl umbrella to the celestial diety.

On the fourth day of Srivari Brahmotsavam, Lord Venkateswara adorns the role of Kalpa Vruksha to bless his devotees with their sought after desires for which they vow to serve and worship him .

He rides on the Kalpa Vruksha vahanam and goes around the four mada streets around the temple giving darshan to thousands of people who come for witnessing the Srivari Brahmotsavam.

Legend says that Kalpa Vruksha was one of the elements what erupted when the Adisesha placed his vice grip on the Mandara Mountain where the Deva- Asuras tried to steal the Amrutam (celestial liquid). All those who took shelter under Kalpa vruksha did not have problems of starvation and poverty, says the classic literature of Srimad Bhagavatham.

The use of Kalpa Vruksha vahanam by Lord Venkateswara also denotes the importance given to environment, greenery and promotion of forests and cleans and pollution free atmosphere even in the days of Vedas and mythology." Many mythological literature also hail Lord Venkateswara as a 'Kalpa Vruksha" as he blessed every devotee with boons sought by them " says Ramana Dikshitulu, chief preist of TTD.

4th day of Sri Vari Annual Brahmotsavam – Sarvabhoopala Vahanam






















Lord Malayappaswamy along with His consorts Sri Devi and Bhudevi taken out in procession on Sarvabhoopala Vahanam.

The Srivari Brahmotsavam the Malayalappa swamy alias Lord Venkateswara presents himself as the king of kings to his devotees who throng Tirumala on the Sarva bhoopala Vahanam.

Sarva bhoopala means the Devas in charge of the earth, water and air become the pall bearers of his vehicle . Along with the Sarva Bhoopalas, the Dikpala’s of East-West and South-North etc also join in his service.

“The objective is to display that all the Dikpalas of the universe were not just under the control of Lord venkateswara but also that there was no chance for misuse of office by them under his diligent vigilance and directions “ says Dr.A.V.Ramana Dikshitulu , chief priest of Tirumala Temple .

They are listed in the legends of Tirumala as – Indra ( East ), Agni ( south-east) , Yama ( god of death on the South ), Niruti ( North –East) , Varuna on ( West), Vayu ( south-west) and Kubera ( god of wealth on North ) and Parameswara on ( North-west) . They are termed as Asta Dikpala’s who all are all in the service of Lord Venkateswara and work under his command.

The message that comes out of this event of Sarva Bhoopala Vahanam- is to indicate that Lord Venkateswara controlled the entire universe , the Dikpala’ and also Sarva Bhupala were managed by him to ensure that the people benefited and prospered with timely rains and course of the activities by all the elements that encompassed the universe.
