Sri Vari Annual Brahmotsavam Begins






As caparisoned temple elephants saluted and thousands of devotees sat outside the temple watching the event occurring inside on plasma televisions. The Srivari Brahmotsavam-2008 began at the sumuhurtam of Meena lagnam with the ‘dwajarohanam’ after 6.45 in the evening.

The Tirumala township dazzled with the illuminations of Lord Venkateswara , his consorts and other Hindu deities as thousands waited with bated breath for the commence of the annual event. Earlier in the evening the Malayalappa swamy was taken in a procession preceded by the Brahma ratham and other commanders of the army of Lord Vishnu -Viswaksena, Anagada and Hanumantha by the temple palanquin carriers.

The chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy landed in the evening to participate in the Brahmotsavam. He walked the distance of over 150 meters from Anjaneyaswamy temple up to the temple carrying the official offerings of silk by government of AP to the deity on the occasion of the Brahmotsavam.

For the last two years the Chief Minister has been making the officials offering on the inaugural day of the Brahmotsavam instead of the fifth day in view of the huge crowds arriving at Tirumala on that day -the day of auspicious Garudotsavam.

The chief minister also inaugurated the Kaustubham guest house built within 12 months at a cost of Rs.15 crore consisting of 220 rooms. Later the he also laid foundation for the Rs.340 crore SV Drinking Water Scheme and the Ananda Nilayam Ananta Swarnamayam Pathakam estimated to cost Rs.100 crore in the first phase .

The chief Minister will stay put in Tirumala for the night and will leave for Hyderabad next morning.

The first of the Brahmotsavam vahanas " Pedda Shesha Vahanam " procession was a feast for all devout pilgrims who thronged the vast grounds around the tirumala temple all along the sacred four mada streets.

The entire area , as huge as a foot ball ground with the temple in the midst has been cordoned off with steel barricades and fully illuminated and wired up with audio system and plasma TV’s for the benefit of the devotees .

The shrill slogan of " Govinda, Govinda " ranted the air as the Pedda Shesha Vahanam came out of temple and went around for over two hours in the mada streets enthralling the thousands of pilgrims waiting since evening for them.

"People will wait for the holy darshan of the deity on the Lord Venkateswara till mid night” says Sri. Ramana Dikshtitulu, the chief priest of the TTD.
