TTD official arrested

TIRUMALA: In another major crackdown, the Tirumala police on Monday succeeded in arresting Chandraiah Setty, an assistant executive officer at the Vaikuntam queue complex, for allegedly issuing more than 600 cellar entry tickets to devotees without the permission of the authorities concerned.

Although the incident happened during last week, the accused applied for leave and was absconding since then, according to the police. Setty was sent to 15 days’ remand by the First ADMM after being produced in court on Monday evening. In a related incident, the Tirumala police also took another TTD employee, S. Kumareswaran, a mazdoor at Srinivasa Ayurvedic Pharmacy, into custody for allegedly selling six cellar tickets at an abnormal price to a pilgrim from Chennai.
