Reseting Screen Saver Password

One of readers, Manish, contacted me and asked his query. He asked “Is it possible to reset the Password set on screen saver, as i have forgotten it completely. I need to set it back to normal. What can i do?“. On further questioning i came to know that he was using Windows 2000 and he need to put in the old password in case he need to change the password. So there was no option left, but here comes registry to rescue. Modifying registry can make this work. Here is the registry to be modified.

  1. Go to Start –> Run, Type Regedit.
  2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop
  3. See for a registry value “ScreenSave_Data“, and delete this file.
  4. Reboot your computer and it is done
So, if in case you forget your screensaver password, do remember this as it can take you out of troubles.
