‘Chiranjeevi is next Chief Minister’

VISAKHAPATNAM: PRP leader and former Union Minister U.V. Krishnam Raju on Sunday clarified that even if there were a hung Assembly, his party president Chiranjeevi would become the next Chief Minister.

Asked to comment on a statement attributed to him that there would be a fractured mandate, he clarified that he did tell reporters sometime ago that Mr. Chiranjeevi would be the Chief Minister even if there were a hung Assembly. Mr. Krishnam Raju, who contested for Lok Sabha against Telugu Desam’s Murali Mohan from Rajahmundry, told a press conference here that the claims and counter-claims on winning seats was purely based on one’s perception.

He said he was confident of winning from Rajahmundry. The actor-turned-politician said the PRP would fare well in the Assembly polls.

People particularly youth and women wanted change and had voted in large numbers for PRP, he claimed.

Mr. Krishnam Raju said he was expecting his party to win nine to 12 Lok Sabha seats including all three in East Godavari. When pointed out that Mr. Chiranjeevi had claimed 15 to 20 seats, he shot back “again it depends on one’s perception. The expectation as well as perception varies from person to person.”
