‘Little Champ’ steals hearts

Sai Deva Harsha takes part in a musical extravaganza

VIJAYAWADA: He came, he crooned and he won the hearts of hundreds of music lovers. Sai Deva Harsha, the 11-year-old singer from Visakhapatnam who shot to fame after emerging as the winner of the 2007 ‘Little Champs’ contest organised by a private TV channel, took part in a musical extravaganza titled ‘Ek Shaam Mastani’ conducted by the Kennedy International Residential School at Kanuru on Sunday. He enthralled the music buffs with his melodious voice.

The ‘pocket dynamo’ with his splendid lung power rendered racy songs such as “Cheliya Cheliya…” and “Rubber Gajulu Rubber Gajulu…” to enliven the mood of the audience. The song “Omkaara Naadalu…” from ‘Sankarabharanam’ appealed to the lovers of classical music. He also rendered the super-hit Hindi song “Har Gadi Badal Rahi hain…” from ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’.

Adding grace to the programme was playback singer Tina, who churned out a couple of touching vintage Hindi melodies like “Kaanto se kheech ke…” (Guide), “Adahai Chandrama…” (Navarang) and “Jaane Jaan…”, a duet from Randhir Kapoor-starrer ‘Jawani Diwani’.

Mayur Orchestra’s lead singer Mohammad Khaja took the music buffs to a different world altogether with yesteryear numbers like “Jaane jigar Jaaneman…” (Aashiqui).

Rasul Babu, winner of ‘Paadutha Theeyaga’ mega final, pitched in with classical songs like “Jummandi Naadam…” from ‘Sirisirimuvva’. Popular singers Sudhavani and Sudha Rani captivated the mood of the audience with their perfect rendition.

Kennedy International Residential School principal N. Eswar Prasad, Vice-principal N. Naga Mani felicitated the artistes.

Game of Thrones: 'The Old Gods and the New' recap and review

Something that Game of Thrones does very well is choose its scenes wisely, which is more necessary than ever now that there are so many characters to juggle. We only have a little bit of time with each of them, so it’s imperative that the time we spend with them is as revealing as possible, or moves the plot forward in a significant way. This was especially evident last week, where each storyline moved forward not only dramatically, but interestingly. This week’s installment, ‘The Old Gods and the New,’ was a little more laid-back in its approach, which is odd considering that it featured both the sack of Winterfell by Theon, and a major riot in King’s Landing. These are big events that I guess I felt weren’t treated with the gravitas they deserved. But hey, Tyrion slapped Joffrey again, so there’s that.
