Student’s death triggers protests

HYDERABAD: The death of a second year Intermediate student on the hostel premises triggered protests at a private college in Aushapur near Ghatkesar on Sunday afternoon. Students squatted in front of the college and raised slogans against the management holding it responsible for the death of Ch. Santosh Kumar (17). Police, however, intervened and brought the situation under control.

Kumar, hailing from Karimnagar district, was pursuing MPC course at a private college in Dilsukhnagar. However, he was depressed for the last few months after he was shifted to Aushapur branch along with 200 students. Since then he was unable to focus on studies. After attending classes in the afternoon on Sunday, he went to the bathroom and hanged himself, said Ghatkesar Sub-Inspector V. Anantaiah.

Three students killed

Two students were killed after the motorcycle they were riding rammed into a stationary lorry at Tondipally village near Shamshabad on Sunday. The deceased persons were identified as Mohammed Asifuddin (17) and Akhil Khan (21). Akhil’s friend Sohail suffered minor injuries. The incident happened when they were returning home after visiting a dargah in Mahabubnagar. They were residents of Azampura, police said. In yet another incident, 24-year-old Niranjan died after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by an autorickshaw near Parade Grounds in Secunderabad on Saturday night, police said. Niranjan, a resident of Begumpet, was going to drop his friend Sunil at his house in Nacharam. Sunil, however, escaped with injuries.
